What he lacks is an imposing presence in the air and lacks a sense of defensive discipline.

Career News:  At the age of 17, for the exception of players promoted from youth teams of Japanese League clubs, Shinji was the first player in Japan to sign a professional contract before graduating high school.  On 29 November 2012, Kagawa was named Asian Football Confederation International Player of the Year. 

Interesting Personal Facts:  Began playing soccer at the age of five but never played at the youth level for any Japanese professional clubs.
